This collection presents contributions to the debate on development challenges in South Africa made at the Conference on the Transitional and Long-Term Development Issues in South Africa held in Johannesburg in December 1995. The papers provide an overview of the critical issues to be addressed by policy makers as they map a path for the transition process in South Africa. The challenges to South African policy-makers are analyzed with a view to contributing a sustainable process of social, political and economic reform.
