The HIV epidemic has brought new challenges for the coloproctologist. Anorectal disorders were previously more common among homosexual than heterosexual men, but the association with immune-deficiency has resulted in both new diseases and novel presentations of previously recognizedconditions. This book is the first to deal specifically with the managment of anorectal conditions in HIV positive patients. The contributors bring to bear a wealth of experience of clinical practice as coloproctologists or AIDS physicians to provide a logical approach to both evaluation andtreatment. The central series of chapters is concerned with management of the most common anorectal conditions which are found in association with HIV positive homosexuals, but a section on background provides relevant coverage of epidemiology, pathobiology and the effects of anorectal intercourseon anal function.
