The book was first conceived at a symposium held at the University of Graz, Austria in May 1990: PerioperativeManagement of Pacemaker Patients. Symposium participantsincluded representatives of the pacemaker industry, implanting surgeons, cardiologists, anesthesiologists, radiologists and other physicians involved in diagnostic andtherapeutic interventions in pacemaker patients. There is awealth of new information presented in this book, addressingthe issues of diagnosis, prevention, and management ofpacemaker malfunction in hospital settings. Further, theeditors' approach to the problem is novel in that they haverecruited authorities from a number of disciplines topresent their views.
