This is a study of the international context of democratization aiming to enlarge on previous studies which have concentrated upon internal domestic factors in the overthrow of authoritarian undemocratic regimes. The transition from facist regime to democracy, and the effectiveness of external pressures on changing states, offer a basis for the study of "linkage politics". This study combines theoretical chapters with empirical case studies, and comparative politics with international relations.
