This is the third volume of the fifth edition of a widely read text of gastroenterology and hepatology. The author's purposes are The first is to provide a reference text of gastroenterology and hepatology with emphasis on pathogenesis, diagnosis, and management. The second goal is to supply investigators with insight into unexplored avenues of research. These objectives are stylishly accomplished and will fulfill the needs of most academic gastroenterologists and practitioners, for which it was written. Gastroenterology fellows can find each chapter enlightening and stimulating without being overwhelmed by the volume of facts presented. The contributing authors provide stimulating and thorough discussions of their respective chapters, without undue duplication. This text is unique in its approach to complex topics. The authors divide these chapters into distinct areas of interest without overlap. Access to these respective subsections is facilitated by the well outlined table of contents. It will bring physicians, regardless of training, up-to-date on current issues in gastroenterology and hepatology.
