Topology of 3-manifolds and Related Topics

In 1961, the Office of Naval Research and the National Science Foundation supported a -Topology of 3-Manifolds Institute- at the University of Georgia. This volume presents summaries and full-length reports of the institute's five seminars, which covered decompositions and subsets of E3; n-manifolds; knot theory; the Poincare conjecture; and periodic maps and isotopies. The book concludes with a section on applications. An advanced graduate-level treatment, it requires a basic background in algebraic topology.
