Green Chemistry in Undergraduate Practical Courses

The application of the principles of green chemistry to the manufacture and use of chemical products is now widely recognised as being of fundamental environmental and social importance to sustainable development. It is therefore essential that green and sustainable chemistry concepts influence all aspects of the education process, both to properly train future generations of industrial chemists and to make all students aware of the environmental and social responsibilities of chemical scientists. This book contains a series of new undergraduate practicals which demonstrate the applications of some of the principles of green chemistry to synthetic organic chemistry. The practicals have been developed and trialled by Dr Jeff Hardy and represent examples of clean synthesis, renewable feedstocks, heterogeneous catalysis, continuous reactors and phase transfer catalysis.
