A collection of 58 papers reporting on recent advances in contractile systems research. Topics covered include mechanochemistry, structure, development, genetics and the intracellular controls of muscle. These proceedings of the XIXth European Conference on Muscle and Motility are mainly devoted to muscle physiology, although cell biology of myogenesis is well represented, with many contributions in the field of muscle development and regeneration. The book summarizes and further stimulates research in free, basic biological science and in object-oriented, applied medical knowledge, so that both of them ultimately will bring benefit to many of the patients with disorders of sarcomeric and non-sarcomeric muscles.
