Gaia I Journey Into Vanishing Worlds

Photographer Paige Deponte and writer Mark Berry traveled to the remote tropical rainforest of Madagascar, Peru, Costa Rica, Brazil, Hawaii and South Africa to gather material for the extraordinary book documenting several key "hotspots" of biodiversity. These are botanically rich and unique places in the world that not only hold the greatest diversity of life but are also the most endangered. Journey into Vanishing Worlds blends scattered poetry with toned black-and-white photographs of lush natural landscapes, endemic species of animals and plants and native people. This haunting imagery offers a compelling yet unsentimental portrait of these rare and beautiful ecosystems, and the environmental degradation brought about the human activity.
