The Fourth Edition of General Surgery Board Review maintains the core features that have made it one of the most popular board review books in the field, including questions and answers after each chapter and succinct but detailed reviews of all topic areas found on the ABSITE. In response to changes in the ABSITE exam, the Fourth Edition inclines more toward clinical information. It is therefore most suited to the senior ABSITE exam, administered to PGY-3 through PGY-5, while Porrett's The Surgical Review: An Integrated Basic and Clinical Science Study Guide is most suited to PGY-1 and PGY-2. Other Fourth Edition changes include a new chapter on bariatric surgery and coverage of minimally invasive procedures under the appropriate anatomic region rather than in a separate chapter.
