Diagnosis and Treatment of Skin Diseases

The human skin covers on an average an area of two square meters, and constitutes of three distinct layers- the dermis, epidermis and subcutaneous tissue. The medical conditions of the integumentary system, including the hair, skin, nails, muscles and glands are known as skin diseases. It constitutes a range of disorders or dermatoses and many nonpathologic states. The diagnosis of skin diseases follows through a histological examination using a skin biopsy that is then correlated with clinical presentation and laboratory data. Cutaneous ultrasound also allows detection of hair diseases, nail disorders, cutaneous tumors and inflammations. This book attempts to understand the varied types of skin diseases, their diagnoses and treatment strategies.
