Environmental medicine is the study of the interactions between the environment and human health. The role of the environment in causing diseases also comes under the scope of this field. It may be considered a sub-field of environmental health. Some of the current issues in focus under the branch of environmental medicine include mercury poisoning, lead poisoning, food poisoning, indoor air quality, water-borne diseases and effects of ozone depletion. The field of medicine concerned with the prevention and treatment of illnesses and injuries in the workplace, along with the maintenance and increase in the productivity and social adjustment is called occupational medicine.
