The autonomic nervous system (ANS) plays a crucial role in the maintenance of homeostasis. From this aspect, a thorough knowledge of the ANS is important for understanding studying the most visceral functions control. ANS helps to control cardiovascular parameters blood pressure and heart rate, baroreflex function, respiratory functioning, gastrointestinal motility, gastrointestinal secretion, sweating, urinary bladder emptying, body temperature, stress reactions, and many other activities, some of which are controlled almost entirely and some only partially by the autonomic nervous system.
