Architecture: A Global Approach

The product as well as the process of planning, designing and constructing structures including buildings is known as architecture. There are several concepts which influence architects in the designing and construction of architecture, such as durability, utility, beauty and sustainability. Some of the popular styles in architecture are Islamic architecture and postmodern architecture. Islamic architecture incorporates architectural forms from ancient Middle East and Byzantium. Postmodern architecture is characterized by several features such as complexity, fragmentation and contradiction. There are several other fields which have evolved from architecture such as philosophy of architecture and architectural phenomenology. The objective of this textbook is to give a general view of the different areas of architecture. Different approaches, evaluations, methodologies and advanced studies on this field have been included herein.
