Overview

Library automation refers to the use of computer to automate the typical procedures of libraries such a cataloging and circulation. A process of great change has been taking place today in libraries due the impact of information technology and application of computers in library work. The main purpose of library automation is to free the librarians and library staff and to allow them to contribute more meaningfully to spread of knowledge and information. The book "A Manual of Library Automation and Networking" is divided into sixteen chapters. International cooperation in library automation has been introduced in first chapter. Fifth chapter seeks to ascertain the challenges and benefits of library automation and to recommend how the challenges could be addressed. Sixth chapter presents the history of library automation in Catalonia from its beginnings to the present, describing the evolution of trends in this field and their application in this autonomous community. Automation of East Asian catalogue records in Australian libraries has been discussed in seventh chapter. Eight chapter appraises the implementation process of Koha integrated Library Management Software (ILMS). A concept in rule-based integrated library automation has been introduced in ninth chapter. In tenth chapter, we discuss several concepts of combinatorial libraries and provide information as what to expect from these depending on the given context. Eleventh chapter presents a brief description of the library automation development before 1981. The role of human aspects in library automation has been identified in twelfth chapter. We discuss the current chilly state of digital libraries for the computation biologist, including PubMed, IEEE Xplore, the ACM digital library, ISI Web of Knowledge, Scopus, Citeseer, arXiv, DBLP, and Google Scholar in thirteenth chapter. Fourteenth chapter demonstrates and elaborates the library automation software and it types used in self-financing engineering college(SFEC) libraries in duration wise analysis. Library automation has been discussed for Chinese collections in fifteenth chapter. Delivering health information via the blue trunk libraries, where there is no internet, has been discussed in last chapter.
