Acts of Reading

Soundly based on principles of recent reading theory and cultural studies, this introduction to reading and writing about literature features explanations, readings, and exercises that focus on the process of how one reads various texts including: poems, plays, stories, film, TV, music, etc. Structures each chapter to include: a short introduction to a reading concept (or moment in the reading process); a selection of canonical and non-canonical works that illustrate the concept; Constructing a Reading exercises -- sequenced prewriting activities that focus on readers' perceptions, feelings, and associations and are designed to increase their awareness of their reading processes.
