Overview

Physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical functions of humans in good health, including their organs, and the cells of which they are composed. The principal focus, however, is at the level of organs and systems. Anatomy and physiology are closely related fields of study: anatomy, the study of form, and physiology, the study of function, are intrinsically tied and are studied together as part of most medical curriculum's. Understanding how living organisms work allows us to understand what goes wrong in disease; it also allows us to develop a scientific basis for treatment of disease. Physiology has close links with biochemistry, molecular biology, mathematical modelling, pharmacology, zoology, and plant biology.Selected Contents: Hepatic Steatosis in n-3 Fatty Acid Depleted Mice: Focus on Metabolic Alterations Related to Tissue Fatty Acid Composition; Molecular Analysis of Photic Inhibition of Blood-feeding in Anopheles gambiae; The Role of Polyamines in Protein-Dependent Hypoxic Tolerance of Drosophila; Blood Pressures, Heart Rate and Locomotor Activity During Salt Loading and Angiotensin II Infusion in Protease-activated Receptor 2 (PAR2) Knockout Mice; Butyrate Ingestion Improves Hepatic Glycogen Storage in the Re-fed Rat; Co-up-Regulation of Three P450 Genes in Response to Permethrin Exposure in Permethrin Resistant House Flies, Musca Domestica; Measurements of Left Ventricular Myocardial Longitudinal Systolic Displacement Using Spectral and Colour Tissue Doppler: Time for a Reassessment?; Mechanisms of the Noxious Inflammatory Cycle in Cystic Fibrosis; Voltage-Gated Sodium Channels in Taste Bud Cells.; Genetic and Physiologic Dissection of the Vertebrate Cardiac Conduction System; The Sweet Taste Quality is Linked to a Cluster of Taste Fibers in Primates: Lactisole Diminishes Preference and Responses to Sweet in S Fibers (Sweet Best) Chorda Tympani Fibers of M. fascicularis Monkey; Rapid Behavioral and Genomic Responses to Social Opportunity; Expression of 5S rDNA in the Oocytes of Water Frogs; Index
