This study of Asia's financial crisis of 1997/98, its sources and history, suggests solutions for the rehabilitation of the financial systems for those countries in distress. The author shows that although the root of the problem lies in asset inflation, competition from China, malinvestment and structural deficiencies, the shortcomings of Asia's banking systems are also a major factor behind the crisis.
