Assured Tenancies

In January 1989 the private residential sector was turned upside down by the coming into force of the Housing Act 1988 and the introduction of assured shorthold tenancies. Further statutory changes were implemented by the Housing Act 1996. This made the assured shorthold tenancy automatically the main form of tenancy, reversing the position under the 1988 Act. An assured tenancy could only be created by satisfying other conditions.In this third edition the author has updated the text with comprehensive references to the rapidly developing case law and supplementary legislation since 1996. In addition all the essential prescribed forms, which must be served in respect of the various matters, are reproduced in full.
