Doctors Ferrari and Opie, and medical artist Gabriele Stocchi, have produced a lovely and lucid work which color encodes and transforms even complex ideas and intricate pathways into a series of memorable maps. The emphasis is on cellular physiology and metabolism including the pathways of the regulation of calcium, the regulation of electrophysiology by metabolism, the metabolism of carbohydrate and lipids, the role of mitochondria and ATP synthesis, and the effects of oxygen lack including ischemia and infarcation. Primarily for recent medical graduates training in cardiology and scientific researchers in the field, but also of considerable interest to established cardiologists.
