AWHONN's Perinatal Nursing

This clinical reference, co-published with the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN), examines the care and needs of childbearing women and neonates. A wide range of topics are covered including issues of professional development, continuing education, standards of care, legal considerations and professional organizations. A family-centered approach to perinatal nursing is provided and the various aspects and ramifications of different care delivery systems such as case management, critical pathways and collaborative practice are explored. Other topics include physiologic changes and psychosocial adaption in pregnancy, fetal monitoring, normal childbirth, care of the postpartum woman and newborn, assessment and care, obstetrical and neonatal complications, and loss and bereavement. Sample protocols, clinical pathways and numerous examples of documentation forms are also presented.
