Beginning Jazz Improvisation

This guide uses the pentatonic scale as the basis for developing the thought processes involved in improvisation, providing a system of improvising that is both easy to teach and learn. Consisting of four units, the text teaches the pentatonics and blue pentatonics; shows the application of these scales to the various chord types; explores how the pentatonics apply to chord changes containing several different chord type; and examines more advanced concepts, such as substitution, doubletiming, ballad playing, and more exotic scale usage.
