"This fifth edition has been updated to take account of the recent developments in constitutional reform in the UK, including the abolition of the office of the Lord Chancellor and arrangements to replace his role and functions in relation to the House of Lords. Judicial Appointments are discussed, together with plans to establish a new supreme court and the second stage of reform of the House of Lords. Developments within the EU and its imminent expansion from 15 to 25 states, as well as the reforms to reflect that expansion, and proposals for a European Constitution, are also covered. This edition has been restructured to facilitate the rapidly developing law under the Human Rights Act. There are now separate chapters on: Freedom from Discrimination; Freedom of Expression; Freedom of Assembly and Association; and the Organization and Powers of the Police (both of which have been substantially reformed by legislation).
