Since the first edition of 'Culture, Health & Illness was published in 1984, medical anthropology has grown enormously - as have its applications to a variety of different health problems. During this time the philosophy has adopted a more globalapproach to human health problems and in many countries there has been an upsurge of interest in the subject. International agencies such as the World Health Organisation are now also showing a greater interest in medical anthropology.
