Current Progress in Agronomy: Volume I

The science of studying soil, water and crop management principles and practices is know as agronomy. It is concerned with improving the agricultural practices by drawing out methods that would increase the productivity by providing favorable conditions to the crops. Agronomic activities like restoring soil fertility, preparation of good seed bed, improving crop varieties, and managing soil resources help in getting a better yield and good quality of produce. Agronomy also takes care of crop rotation, irrigation, weed control, insecticides and pesticides and plant breeding. It also uses biotechnology to achieve its objectives, like introducing desired characteristics to a crop or eliminating undesired traits. It is an approach that will change the face of agriculture in the world.
