Employment Law for Charities

A distinctive feature of charities is that staff may comprise not only employees, but also other personnel such as volunteers. Managing staff of varying legal status can cause difficulties for a charity. Questions arise such as: What recompense can be paid to a volunteer without that person achieving employment protection? What remedy does a charity have if an employee or volunteer discloses confidential information? If a volunteer designs a charity's website, who owns the intellectual property rights and the supporting software? Is a charity restricted as to whom it may employ, and what security checks should be made?
