The revised, updated, and expanded Second Edition of this volume incorporates the past few years' significant advances in the diagnosis and management of childhood epilepsies, particularly recent developments in brain imaging and in surgical therapy of epilepsy. A new chapter explains the key principles of surgical treatment, and revised chapters on specific epileptic syndromes include discussions of surgical treatment where appropriate. Also included are detailed descriptions of major epileptogenic lesions--especially developmental brain deficits--whose importance has been shown by magnetic resonance imaging. The Second Edition presents up-to-date views on controversial issues such as the myoclonic epilepsies and the Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. These two groups of syndromes are more clearly delineated than they were in the original edition.
