Fundamentals of Physiology by Prof RL Bijlani is a concise textbook for health professionals. Although only about one-third in length as compared to his Understanding Medical Physiology, the reduction in length has not been achieved at the expense of clarity. Not only is the language lucid, the book encourages the student’s spirit of inquiry, sense of wonder, and capacity to think clearly and logically. The book is not examination-oriented, but if read diligently, is quite adequate for passing examinations comfortably. The book includes topics such as nutrition, environmental physiology and yoga, which do not figure in a typical textbook of physiology.
