The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau is formed of a complex of small terranes accreted together. The boundaries between these terranes are defined by linear outcrops of dismembered ophiolite suite that mark the position of ancient oceanic tracts. This book is a summary of new data and a research results obtained by the author and other geology scholars, both in China and abroad, and presents evidence concerning the origin and chronology of successive collisions of continental fragments with Eurasian or Gondwanian provenance and discusses the mechanisms by which the plateau evolved and the crust was doubled in thickness.
