Eschewing the traditional topic-by-topic approach to hazardous material training, the author presents information within the structure of the GEDAPER approach to operationally based decision making. GEDAPER is a seven-step approach which includes gathering information, estimating potential course and harm, determining strategic goals, assessing tactical options and resources, implementing a plan of action, evaluation, and review. After introductory chapters which provide an overview of hazardous materials issues and the GEDAPER approach, the process is examined in five chapters which also include information on types of hazards, the ways different kinds of containers can leak or rupture, and the dangers of various materials.
