Headteacher Appraisal

This book attempts to show the importance of continued, satisfactory arrangements which will enable headteachers to be appraised regularly by their peers in a mutually supportive regime and suggests that similar arrangements should be available for their deputies.Headteacher Appraisal suggests ways to make the process more effective and offers practical advice for those involved, including a review of the background to the current arrangements for headteacher appraisal, how appraisal should link individuals to the review and development of the whole school's aims, an evaluation study of an operational headteacher appraisal scheme, a self-help chapter on preparing for appraisal for those whose LEA does not provide adequate training, an examination of the relationship of governors with the headteacher appraisal process, and the appraisal statement and the formulation of its targets.The contributors to this volume are all experienced practitioners in schools, and in the design and implementation of appraisal schemes.
