This second edition of Juvenile Justice in America acknowledges the problems facing the juvenile justice system today as it carefully examines the processing of youth, the philosophy and issues of juvenile justice, the detention of juveniles, and the diversion of youth from the formal justice system. In addition, it presents such debates as whether to reform, reduce the scope of, or abolish the juvenile justice system, whether society should become more hardline in dealing with juvenile crime, and what will be needed to control the projected 30% increase in population among juveniles from fourteen to twenty in the next fifteen years.
