The restrictions on the grant of licences for the sale of intoxicating liquor combined with the value of the vintners' trade in this jurisdiction has led to liquor licensing law becoming an important aspect of Irish legal practice. The liquor licensing system in Ireland is entirely based on statute and the area lends itself to clarification and annotation in line with the other subject areas already included in the BIAS series. The book incorporates annotated liquor licensing legislation from 1735 up to and including the Intoxicating Liquor Act 2000. The legislation is fully consolidated with detailed annotations and cross-references, and relevant case law is critically analysed. Annotations are directed at solving practical problems, eg, delimiting the scope of enactments, pointing out lacunae where they exist.
