Mercedes Benz and racing: since the earliest days of motor sports, these have been two sides of the same coin. From the era of the pioneers and trailblazers of 1901 to 1933, through the development of the legendary Silver Arrow and its renaissance in the 1950s, to the return of the legend from 1984 onwards and the triumphs of Mika "The Flying Finn" Hakkinen in the late 1990s, Hartmut Lehbrink's captivating writing traces the unique racing history of Mercedes Benz. AUTHOR Hartmut Lehbrink has authored many books about automobiles and racing. Watching the Silver Arrows race in Spa, Zandvoort and at the Nürburgring had an enormous impact on him, leading him eventually to Mercedes. Renowned motor-sport journalist and devoted fan of the sport racing scene, Jochen von Osterroth provided the drawings for this book. EDITOR AND PHOTOGRAPHER According to previously unpublished statements by his parents, Rainer W. Schlegelmilch was conceived on the back seat of their Mercedes Benz 170V. Rainer opened his own photography and design studio in Frankfurt in 1964. Even back then, the took pictures at Formula 1 and prototype races in addition to his regular work in advertising, and he soon found himself under the spell of automobile technology and design.
