New Trends in Power System Operation and Control

Power system are large complex electrical networks. As a consequence of deregulation, competition, and problems in securing capital outlays for expansion of the infrastructure, modern power systems are operating at ever-smaller capacity and stability marging. Traditional entities involved in securing adequate protection and control for the system may soon become inadequate, and the emergence of the new participants requires coordinated approach and careful coordination of the new operating conditions. This book is divided into eight chapter. First chapter reviews of wind farms impact on power networks and on Grid codes requirements ara analyzed. Operation and control of wind farms in noninterconnected power systems have been described in second chapter. The objective of third chapter is to study the impact of FACTS controllers on the dynamic behavior of a grid connected doubly fed induction generator based wind farm with and without FACTS controllers. Fourth chapter examines the usage of nuclear energy for the cogeneration of electricity and hydrogen with water splitting technologies. Fifth chapter describes a hybrid contorl csheme utilizing WNNCs with IPSO for the voltage control of DC-link voltage, active power and reactive power of the CRPWM AC/DC/AC power converter feeding from a wind turbine SEIG system. Wind turbine gearbox technologies have been presented in sixth chapter. A novel control system for variable speed stall regulated wind turbines is defined in seventh chapter. Last chapter deals with real options theory with Monte Carlo method to establish a nuclear power investment evaluation model.
