Operative Spine Surgery

Provides an overview of this relatively new specialty for residents at the beginning of their training and for practitioners who are often asked to explain technical details and reasons for selecting a specific procedure (primary care physicians and specialists in general orthopedics and neurosurgery). The first group of chapters cover anatomy, patient history and examination, imaging, anesthesia, and indications for operative intervention. Subsequent chapters discuss such topics as: surgical management of cervical spondylotic myelopathy; anterior approaches and fusion techniques of the lumbar spine; surgical treatment of scoliosis; arthroscopic microdiscectomy; postoperative complications; and pre- and postoperative pain management.
