Preventive Cardiology

Heart disease is the major cause of death in the western world. Current changes in healthcare funding and cost-cutting have resulted in a shift in emphasis from often highly expensive treatments to prevention in many areas of medicine. Heart disease is the major area in which prevention plays the key role and recent advances in understanding of the processes involved in the development of various forms of heart disease and the risk factors which predispose to it will enable this policy to succeed, in this area at least. Preventive Cardiology is clear and didactic in style, and is a sound source of advice and instruction for the non-specialist.
