Designed as a textbook for undergraduate dental students, "Restorative Dental Materials" covers laboratory and clinical properties of dental materials. The scientific basis for technical procedures and manipulation of materials is provided, as well as the background required for the discriminating selection of material for dental practice. The first chapter presents an historical review of development of the field. The next six deal with the fundamentals related to the physical, thermal and mechanical properties of materials, with special emphasis on metals and alloys, polymers, and the biocompatibility of materials. The following 12 chapters describe the various classes of dental materials, including their composition, manipulation, reactions, properties, and the effect of these variables on performance.
