Sergei Sviatchenko I Am Collage : an Art Biography

"'I am collage' is an art-biographical journey through the universe of Danish-Ukrainian artist Sergei Sviatchenko. From the 19th century realists of The Wanderers movement to the Constructivism of the Soviet avant-garde and on to surrealism, 1960s pop art, the work of film legend Andrei Tarkovsky and the timeless music of The Beatles, 'I am collage' is a collision and fusion of the hugely diverse influences that have informed Sviatchenko's work over the past 50 years. It is also a personal journey, detailing the artist's Ukrainian upbringing and his longing for the West from the rocket age cold war politics of Nikita Khruschev through to Mikhail Gorbachev's era of Perestroika and Glasnost and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
