Lillch discusses all aspects of stained glass produced in France during the Gothic era. As well as analysing the iconography, style and hagiography of these major works of art, Lillich also considers glaziers, specific glazing techniques, grisaille and displaced panels. The papers study regional traditions, such as in Normandy, Aquitaine, Lorraine and Champagne, and the significant developments in stained glass during the late Capetian period.Table of ContentsIntroductionGothic Glaziers: Monks, Jews, Taxpayers, Bretons, WomenEuropean Stained Glass around 1300: The Introduction of Silver StainThe Band Window: A Theory of Origin and DevelopmentThree Essays on French Thirteenth Century Grisaille GlassA Redating of the Thirteenth-century Grisaille Windows of Chartres CathedralAn Early Image of St. LouisThe Ex-Voto Window at St.-Gengoult, ToulObservations on the Gothic Rose Window with Centripetal TraceryThe Monumental Program of the Green Rose of Châlons CathedralSt. Memmie, Bishop of Châlons, and Other Bishop Saints in the Gothic Windows of Châlons CathedralRemembrance of Things Past: Stained Glass Spolia at Châlons CathedralMore Stained Glass Spolia at Châlons CathedralMonastic Stained Glass: Patronage and StyleCleanliness with Godliness: A Discussion of Medieval Monastic PlumbingRecent Scholarship Concerning Cistercian WindowsStained Glass from Western France (1250-1325) in American CollectionsLes vitraux de la cathédrale de Sées a Los Angeles et dans d'autres musées américainsA Stained Glass Apostle from Sées Cathedral (Normandy) in the Victoria and Albert MuseumBishops from EvronDécouverte d'un vitrail perdu de Saint-Père de ChartresNotesIndex
