Teamsters and Turtles? U.S. Progressive Political Movements in the 21st Century

The 1999 Seattle protests united a broad range of constituencies, including conservative labor unions (Teamsters) and radical environmentalists (Turtles) in the fight for global justice. This work examines the global anti-corporate movement itself and then looks at nine other movements that might constitute possible constituencies for a larger movement of the future, providing insight into left protest politics in America. Chapter authors, mainly academics in political science, were chosen for their personal involvement in the movements they write about. Berg teaches political science at Suffolk University, UK.
