Tel Aviv the white city

The city center, created in thenineteen-thirties and -forties under the influence of internationalmodernism, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003. Manyarchitects, most of them emigrating from Europe, found opportunitieshere to realize their ideological principles and architectural ideas.Tel Aviv's modernism is characterized by a specific combination offunctionality and elegance. While the buildings are adapted to theclimatic conditions, many of them display highly specific stylisticfeatures. Stefan Boness succeeds in capturing the particularities andunique atmosphere of the city in his photographs. By juxtaposingclassical modernism with the contemporary architecture of the city, hedemystifies it while simultaneously embedding it in a historicalcontext.
