Telling Stories About School: An Invitation

Challenges pre-service and practicing teachers to develop a critical and progressive view of needed school reform -- to view curriculum holistically and to question how they invite young people to learn in ways that will give meaning to their lives. KEY TOPICS: Examines curriculum and reform through the stories of practicing teachers. Challenges readers to think about how society is changing rapidly, yet schools seem reluctant to respond to such changes. Invites readers to challenge their experiences in schooling, to question their assumptions, and to examine the conventional behaviors of schooling. Models a process for self-reflection which encourages personal connections between day-to-day practice and a contemporary knowledge base.
