Overview

Eastern Jordan is divided environmentally into two sectors: the rocky basalt Harra to the west and the open gravel plains of the Hamad to the east. This is the first in a series of three reports on fieldwork carried out in this region from 1979 to 1991, presenting evidence for the Epipalaeolithic periods and Neolithic hunting stations in the Harra associated with the use of desert 'kites'. This volume also includes an edited summary of work by Uzbek and Russian scholars on hunting traps and animal migration patterns on the Ustiurt plateau in Uzbekistan, which lies between the Aral and the Caspian Seas.
