The first section of the book is all about Indonesia's democratic transformation -- as it is the main theme of the book. It looks at the ways in which political parties in Indonesia have been formed and how they function in Indonesia's society, which is rich, diverse in culture, religion and ethnicity. Voter behaviour and electoral patterns are also examined herein. Included is a review of Indonesia's democratic transformation since the fall of Suharto. As the economy is the most crucial factor determining Indonesia's democratic and national progress, the second section of the book examines financial, trade, and industrial issues in Indonesia. Southeast Asia economic professor Hal Hill provides a comprehensive analysis of the Indonesian economy since the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997-98, which started a decade ago and of which Indonesia was one of the most prominent victims. Hill also shows where Indonesia is with its macro- and micro-economic managements and reforms.
