Writing Your Own OSF/Motif Widgets

The Motif graphical user interface system includes a comprehensive set of components widgets and gadgets that enable programmers to easily create very sophisticated, aesthetically pleasing user interface applications. Although several currently available books describe how to program with the OSF/Motif widgets, none describe how programmers can write their own widgets for special applications up until now a very complex task usually left to programming geniuses. Designed for programmers with experience in C++ programming, object-oriented programming, Motif, and the Xt Intrinsics, this volume outlines, step-by-step from conception to the finished component how to write new widgets and gadgets. Using detailed code explanations and many screen displays, shows how to create two new widgets (a knob widget and a matrix widget) and an indicator gadget. Explains how to connect each new component to an existing superclass, so that the component inherits the resources belonging to the superclass. Includes a program that demonstrates the use of these new components.
