Youth, Risk and Russian Modernity

Aiming to offer a new perspective on Russia as a risk society, this text considers a variety of theories of risk and applies them to young people in different risk societies. works of Douglas, Beck and Giddens, to examine the challenges facing young people and shows how they have adapted to cope with risk. It tackles a range of aspects of youth transition including individualization, the impact of the transition to modernity, the pressure of globalization, trends in youth identity, the role of young people in the process of social reproduction, and changes in the status and position of youth in the world of education and work. The authors analyze similarities and differences of growing up in various stable and unstable risk societies and assess the degree of conflict between youth and society.
